What will happen if one keeps eating the same kinds of food, listens to the same songs, walks the same route (to and fro), watchs the same kinds of movies, keeps repeating the same jokes, talks about the same things over and over, forever meeting the same kinds of people. What will happen to the person who does the same things everyday of his adult life, and oblivious to the world around him until death comes knocking?

Of Monkeys and MacRitchie

MacRitchie Reservoir Park. Went there with bro. Tried to hike along the 0.5km Lornie trail, but the entrance was blocked by a group of very very hungry monkeys. One of them tried to snatch my bro’s 100 Plus bottle. That same monkey also tried to snatch another park visitor’s plastic bag with food inside. He managed to break the styrofoam food packaging by holding on to the plastic bag and hitting it. The other monkeys were acting very much like monkeys. Jumping and running around. Urrgh, such monkeys they were. There were 7 people (including moi) at the entrance of the Lornie trail, and all of them turned back. I guess the monkeys won this time. Originally intended to hike all the way to the tree-top suspended bridge that was built last year. Did not realize it was a long 10.3km hiking trail full of nature (and monkeys) to get to that tree-top bridge. We went on a monday, and the bridge was closed that day. Then we thought we might go for a canoe ride at the reservoir and guess what? The canoe rental place was locked, there wasn’t a sight of anyone there. I guess it was closed too. Haahaaa…No worries, we are coming back. We are coming back, you monkeys!
The thing about MacRitchie Park is that you don’t really have to walk through the nature (think thick rainforest) trails to enjoy nature. I mean, I was in the park for what? 20 minutes..and I already saw a chipmunk, 2 tortoises, not to forget the monkeys and some other insects whose names I did not know. The last time I visited the place, I saw a kind of aligator..this small reptile thing. Ok, maybe it wasn’t an aligator, but still…it was a unique reptile that I didn’t get to see everyday.
Here’s my list of things to observe if you want to do a serious tour of MacRitchie Park (from someone who have not done that already):
1. Do not bring food (packed or otherwise), especially 100-plus drink into the nature trail, or anywhere near the forest areas.
2. If you want to ride a canoe on a Monday, bring your own canoe.
3. If you can’t stand monkeys but you REALLY want to hike in one of the trails in MacRitchie park, behave like a monkey. You’ll blend in nicely and they won’t disturb you.
4. Study the names of some animals that you have forgotten or have never learned in school before. You never know which ones of them you may run into, and it is very rude not to say hi and address them properly. Remember, you are in THEIR kingdom. You are at nature’s mercy.
5. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go into the trails alone, more so if you are a female. You know, sometimes being gender-biased is very good, especially when you are facing a ‘monkeyish’ situation.
6. You can ignore everything I wrote in this list, except items (1) and (5).
Okey folks, have a good day!
