Uncomforting, stark truth. If you go to the ONE Singapore campaign website, you can watch a celebrity studded video, all of them expressing ONE awareness: large-scale poverty exists, even if it doesn’t make it on frontpage of world news everyday. Maybe slow death from poverty every 3 seconds is not exciting enough a news for most news channels to make it their top headline news. Not much drama like the tsunami or 9/11. I think the ONE campaign is trying to do just that, they are not asking for your money or anything, they just want to call the world’s attention to an emergency. It is more urgent and serious than most people think, as Bono puts it “Poverty in Africa is not a cause, it is an emergency”.
